Zing Wellness is run by husband and wife team, Angela and James Rake, merging ‘Pilates with Angela’ and ‘James Rake Deep Tissue Therapy’. Zing Wellness will help you by giving you the tools, techniques and confidence to discover a stronger, healthier, happier and more connected version of yourself. We aim to put the zing back into your life utilising Pilates, massage and hypnobirthing. We work with you to enhance your posture and alignment, strengthen the body, address soft tissue tension, improve breathing habits, address muscle weakness and compensatory movement patterns and anything else that might be holding you back from achieving your goals. We take a holistic approach looking at your whole lifestyle and very much work to embed your practice into your everyday life. Once we help you reach your goals we believe in preventative self-care so you can prevent tension and bad habits creeping back into play that might put you at risk of discomfort or injury.
I am a Harpenden based Pilates teacher and Independent Hypnobirthing Practitioner passionate about working with those in pain or rehabilitating and in particular the pre and postnatal population. I focus on eliminating the source of your discomfort and improving quality of life. You can’t mobilise and exercise a body that is in a state of tension. Get the foundations right and you’ll achieve results that you have only ever dreamed of.
I am a Harpenden based sports massage and deep tissue therapist with a specialism in pregnancy and postnatal massage. I am passionate about helping clients rehabilitate and improving their lives by releasing and removing tension and giving them back their freedom to move.
After years of increasing pain from a bad hip I was persuaded to try Pilates. Wish I’d done it 10 years ago. Pilates is wonderful and Angela is brilliant. Being a man of a certain age the weekly session is tailored to my circumstances and the results speak for themselves. Although I regularly do other exercise/sport after just a few Pilates sessions both my strength and flexibility increased and each month I notice improvements. And now I rarely have any hip pain. Pilates should be prescribed by the NHS and Angela should be in charge.

I attended Angela’s group pregnancy classes during my third pregnancy (I didn’t live in Harpenden for the others!) and they were brilliant! Angela is a great teacher who had planned her classes excellently to make you feel you were doing just the right amount of stretching and effort without being uncomfortable. She is very considerate of how you are feeling each week and will give you modified exercises if you have a particular pregnancy ache or pain. It was also a good place to meet other mums too! I would highly recommend Angela if you want to do Pilates during your pregnancy.
James is a skilled and caring massage therapist. He is professional and put me at ease immediately. After a postural assessment he suggested I needed to release my shoulders and gave a good deep tissue massage. In one area it was a little sore, so he adjusted his pressure immediately. I haven’t visited many male massage therapists, but he was considerate to my modesty (leaving the room while I changed etc) and the extra strength in his hands felt good on my back as I like a deep massage. James works from a nice studio at the end of the garden which was clean and quiet. I can recommend his treatments to anyone looking for a remedial massage.
I have attended both Angela’s pregnancy and post pregnancy classes. I can honestly say that the classes were beneficial for my various aches and pains! Angela was also full of useful information too. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her.
Did the pregnancy and then the mother-baby pilates class with Angela. The classes were always very enjoyable and Angela made sure that everyone felt at ease. She is very knowledgeable about a women’s body during pregancy and after birth. The classes helped me a lot during pregancy to cope with all the aches and pains and with my recovery (esp. pelvic floor) after birth.
